Breaking News: Wrong-Way Driver Faces Charges After Deadly Multi-Car Collision on Capital Boulevard in Wake Forest
May 22 , 2025Raleigh, North Carolina — May 21, 2025 — According to ABC 11, a tragic wrong-way crash on Capital Boulevard claimed the life of a 24-year-old woman and left three others injured. Authorities have confirmed charges against the driver believed responsible for the fatal collision.
According to the Wake Forest Police Department, the crash occurred just after 11:15 p.m. in the northbound lanes of Capital Boulevard near Star Road. Investigators say 74-year-old Willie Gene Coleman of Philadelphia was traveling in the wrong direction when his vehicle collided with two others.
One of the vehicles that was struck carried 24-year-old Katana Perry of Raleigh, who was killed in the impact. Perry was a passenger in the vehicle and died at the scene, according to a spokesperson for the Town of Wake Forest.
The two other drivers involved were identified as Barrett Carter, 36, of Raleigh, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries, and Quidasiah Teachey, 19, of Franklinton, who sustained minor injuries.
Coleman, who remains hospitalized in critical condition, has been charged with driving the wrong way on a divided highway and misdemeanor death by vehicle. Authorities plan to serve the charges once he is released from medical care.
Officials stated that alcohol or drug use is not suspected as a contributing factor in the collision. However, the investigation remains ongoing.
The crash resulted in a complete shutdown of all northbound lanes for more than three hours while emergency crews responded and investigators documented the scene.
