Denver, North Carolina — October 19, 2025 — According to authorities and WBTV 3, two drivers were killed early Sunday morning after a head-on crash in Lincoln County that caused both vehicles to catch fire.

Two People Killed in Fiery Head-On Collision on

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol said the collision occurred on Highway 16 South near Highway 73. Investigators determined that a 2006 Acura RSX traveling north in the southbound lanes struck a 2014 Nissan Altima head-on. Both cars were quickly engulfed in flames after impact.

Troopers identified the driver of the Acura as Rashann Curmon, 32, of Charlotte. Curmon was pronounced dead at the scene. A child who was riding in the Acura survived and was taken to a hospital with what officials described as minor injuries.

The driver of the Nissan, Steven Sweda, 50, also from Charlotte, died at the scene, authorities said.

State Highway Patrol officials said early findings show that neither speed nor impairment contributed to the crash. The cause of the wrong-way driving remains under investigation.

The section of Highway 16 where the crash occurred was shut down for approximately three hours while troopers examined the scene and cleared debris.
