Trooper and Driver Hospitalized After Fiery Collision on US 29 in Thomasville
April 11, 2026Thomasville, North Carolina — April 10, 2026 — According to My Fox 8, a North Carolina State Highway Patrol trooper and a pickup truck driver were both taken to the hospital following a collision that led to a vehicle fire in Davidson County.
According to officials, the trooper had been traveling southbound on US 29 when he observed a vehicle heading north at a high rate of speed. After activating the emergency lights and siren, the trooper turned around to pursue the speeding vehicle.
At the same time, a Ford pickup truck was attempting to cross US 29 from Old US 29. Investigators say the driver of the truck failed to yield to the trooper’s emergency signals and collided with the patrol vehicle as it traveled north.
Following the impact, the pickup truck came to a stop in the median. The patrol car left the roadway and briefly caught fire.
The trooper was transported to a local hospital and later released. The pickup truck driver was also taken to the hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
Authorities say the incident remains under investigation, and charges may be filed as more information becomes available.
