Breaking News: Third-Year Resident at UNC-Chapel Hill Killed in Lee County Car Crash
September 23 , 2024Lee County. North Carolina — September 21, 2024 — According to MSN.com, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to a crash near Frank Wicker Road where a man was killed in a car crash on NC-87 in Lee County.
Highway Patrol says Davis Anugo, 32, was traveling south operating a Ford Escape SUV when a man traveling north in a 2010 GMC Yukon SUV traveled left of center, hitting Anugo head-on.
After the initial crash, troopers said the driver of the Yukon SUV also sideswiped a 2012 Nissan Versa that was traveling behind Anugo.
The driver and a passenger in the car suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to a local hospital. Anugo died at the scene, troopers said. According to troopers, he was in his third year of residency at UNC-Chapel Hill.
Troopers said the collision is still under investigation. They will discuss charges with the Lee County District Attorney’s Office.
