Breaking News: Rain-Slicked Roads Contribute to Multi-Vehicle Collision Involving 18-Wheeler Near Southern Pines

May 13 , 2025

Southern Pines, North Carolina — May 12, 2025 — According to the Sandhill Sentinel,  a multi-vehicle crash involving a semi-truck and two Jeep SUVs brought traffic to a standstill along U.S. Highway 1 South, causing significant delays and sending one person to the hospital.

The collision occurred near Air Tool Drive, as a heavy downpour created slick and hazardous road conditions. According to first responders, the wet pavement likely contributed to the crash, which impacted traffic on the southern outskirts of Southern Pines for over an hour.

Five individuals, including two young children, were inside the vehicles involved in the collision. Moore County EMS transported one adult to a nearby hospital for evaluation and treatment of injuries described as non-life-threatening.

Rain-Slicked Roads
The impact left all three vehicles with moderate to severe damage, prompting emergency crews to shut down the highway’s southbound lanes. Traffic was rerouted onto Brothers Road while debris was cleared and safety assessments were conducted.

Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, though preliminary reports highlight the dangerous driving conditions created by the sudden storm. Drivers are reminded to reduce speed and increase following distance during inclement weather to help prevent collisions like this one.
