One Killed, Another Seriously Injured in Early-Morning I-95 Crash Near Fayetteville
October 7 , 2025Cumberland County, North Carolina — October 6, 2025 — According to ABC 11, authorities are investigating a deadly three-vehicle collision that occurred on Interstate 95 North near Fayetteville.
The crash happened near mile marker 53, close to the NC-24 interchange. According to investigators, a dump truck had broken down on the shoulder, and a service truck had stopped nearby to assist.
Officials said a northbound tractor-trailer drifted out of its lane and sideswiped both vehicles. The impact struck a mechanic who was working near the trucks and caused the dump truck to be rear-ended. The mechanic was pronounced dead at the scene. Their name has not yet been released, pending notification to their family.
Rescue crews had to free the dump truck driver, who was trapped inside the cab following the collision. That driver was transported to Cape Fear Valley Hospital with serious injuries.
State troopers have charged the tractor-trailer driver with failure to maintain lane control and death by motor vehicle. Investigators said additional charges could follow as they continue reviewing evidence from the scene.
All lanes of I-95 North were reopened several hours after the crash was cleared.
