Breaking News: North Carolina Truck Driver Accused of Killing Four Was Operating Without a CDL

May 18 , 2025

North Carolina — May 17, 2025 — According to MSN, a North Carolina man is facing criminal charges after a devastating semi-truck crash killed four people—an incident made more troubling by the recent discovery that he was not licensed to drive a commercial vehicle.

Commercial truck drivers are legally required to hold a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), but authorities have now confirmed that the man at the center of this fatal crash never held one. Despite this, he operated a large commercial truck during the collision.

The man, identified only as Michael, had been employed by the city in two roles: first as an Equipment Operator I, and later promoted to Equipment Operator II. How he was permitted to drive a semi-truck without the proper certification remains unclear.

The case has sparked outrage and concern throughout the trucking industry and among public safety officials, highlighting the serious consequences of lax oversight in commercial vehicle operations.

Michael is awaiting sentencing, but a date has not yet been set. The investigation is ongoing, and updates are expected as more information becomes available.
