North Carolina Couple Indicted for Harris Lake Boating Crash That Killed 10-Year-Old

August 13 , 2025

Pittsboro, North Carolina — August 12, 2025 — According to My Fox 8, a Chatham County grand jury has indicted a man and woman on second-degree murder charges following a deadly boating incident at Harris Lake earlier this month that claimed the life of a child and left another person critically injured.

North Carolina couple indicted for Harris Lake boating crash that killed 10-year-old, with a capsized boat in the water.

Prosecutors allege that on Saturday, August 2, 40-year-old Quinten Kight was intoxicated when he operated his girlfriend’s boat and struck three swimmers near the Cross Point Access Area. The collision killed 10-year-old Brooklyn Carroll, a West Lake Elementary School fifth grader from Cary, and seriously injured her friend’s mother, Jennifer Stehle of Apex.

Investigators said a search of the boat uncovered 39 empty cans of hard seltzer, along with a few unopened cans still on board.

Kight, who was arrested last week, was already facing charges of reckless driving, impaired boating, and operating a motor vessel under the influence, resulting in the death of another person. His girlfriend, 41-year-old Annemarie Flanigan, the registered owner of the boat, was also taken into custody. She is accused of aiding and abetting felony death by impaired boating as well as aiding and abetting felony serious injury by impaired boating.
