Breaking News: Multiple Injured, One Airlifted Following Serious Head-On Collision Near Carthage

July 20 , 2025

Carthage, North Carolina — July 19, 2025 — According to the Sandhill Sentinel, a significant stretch of U.S. Highway 15-501 was closed for several hours after a head-on crash left five people injured, including one individual who was airlifted from the scene.

The crash occurred north of Carthage, between Muse Road and Medlin Lane. Authorities say a Chevrolet Camaro traveling southbound crossed the center line, clipped a Chevrolet box truck, and slammed head-on into a Lexus sedan.

The force of the collision caused the Camaro to spin and come to a rest facing the opposite direction. Both the Camaro and Lexus sustained significant damage to the front ends.

Emergency responders confirmed that the two occupants of the box truck, as well as the drivers of the Camaro and Lexus, were all transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital. A male passenger in the Camaro sustained more serious injuries and was airlifted by helicopter from a landing zone set up at the intersection of U.S. 15-501 and Priest Hill Road. His current condition has not been released.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.

U.S. 15-501 remained closed for nearly three hours while fire, EMS, and law enforcement agencies worked to assist victims, conduct the investigation, and clear the roadway.

Agencies responding to the incident included the Carthage Fire Department, Cypress Pointe Fire Department, Moore County EMS, the Moore County Sheriff’s Office, and the N.C. Highway Patrol.Bottom of Form
