Driver Cited After Chicken Truck Involved in Head-On Collision in Magnolia

Magnolia, North Carolina — December 17, 2025 — According to WITN and local police, a head-on collision led to charges for the driver of a truck used to haul poultry.

Magnolia Police Chief Jerry Wood said the crash happened along East Main Street near South Swinson Street. Investigators say an empty tractor-trailer used for transporting chickens crossed over the center line and struck an oncoming car.

The woman driving the car, age 37, became trapped inside the vehicle following the impact. Emergency crews freed her, and she was taken to a Wilmington hospital. Her injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.

Police identified the truck driver as 30-year-old Andre Smith of Goldsboro. He has been charged with crossing the center line while meeting an oncoming vehicle.

Traffic in the area was shut down for about an hour while officers worked the scene and cleared the roadway.
