Breaking News: Construction Worker Fatally Struck by Truck While Escaping Downed Power Line in Cary
March 29 , 2025Cary, North Carolina — March 28, 2025 — According to CBS 17, a tragic incident unfolded when a construction worker lost his life after being hit by a truck while trying to flee from a damaged power line, authorities said.
The Cary Police Department reported that the accident happened at the intersection of Old Apex Road and Cary Parkway. A dump truck, while unloading materials, struck overhead utility lines, snapping a pole and exploding a transformer, sending sparks flying across the site.
The sudden electrical hazard prompted a worker with the on-site TeraFlex Group construction crew to run for safety. As he fled into the roadway, he was struck by a passing flatbed truck traveling through the active construction zone.
Emergency responders transported the injured worker to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Cary police confirmed the incident is being treated as a workplace accident. The victim’s name had not been publicly released.
An investigation into the events leading up to the accident remains ongoing.
