Charlotte Singer Lynsea Hospitalized With Severe Brain Injury After Crash; Driver Faces Multiple Charges
September 27 , 2025Charlotte, North Carolina — September 26, 2025 — According to WCNC, local pop artist Lynsea remains in critical condition following a weekend crash that police say was caused by an impaired driver. The 31-year-old musician sustained a traumatic brain injury and is undergoing intensive treatment, according to a fundraising campaign launched to help with medical expenses.
The collision happened at the intersection of North Tryon Street and East 36th Street. Court records indicate that Lynsea was en route to the airport with her sister when another driver struck their vehicle.
Authorities identified the driver as Alphonso Lewis, 38, who now faces several charges, including serious injury by vehicle, reckless driving, running a red light, and marijuana possession. An arrest warrant further alleges that Lewis’s actions caused Lynsea to suffer brain and skull trauma. He is also accused of possessing a stolen vehicle and related theft charges.
Following the crash, Lynsea underwent emergency brain surgery. Family and friends have shared through GoFundMe updates that she initially came off a ventilator quickly and responded to loved ones, but later required an additional, unrelated procedure that placed her back on a ventilator. Despite the setbacks, doctors have expressed cautious optimism about her recovery.
Her sister, who was also injured and admitted to intensive care, has since been released from the hospital and is now supporting Lynsea’s recovery.
Organizer Kylee Brooks described the musician as “incredibly strong” and said she continues to make progress daily, though she faces a lengthy rehabilitation process. As of this week, the GoFundMe campaign has raised more than $42,000.
Lynsea has been an active presence in Charlotte’s music community, with five of her tracks featured earlier this year on Netflix’s “Temptation Island.” She was also selected for Charlotte Is Creative’s Creative Entrepreneur Initiative. Originally from Texas, she studied songwriting and music business at Boston’s Berklee College of Music and later worked with Elevation Church’s record label. Her discography includes multiple singles and EPs, highlighted by her 2024 trilingual project hormones, released in English, Spanish, and French.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department continues to investigate the incident. Lewis remains in custody on a $450,000 bond.
