Breaking News: Charges Expected After Two Killed in Head-on Crash on Highway 58
July 1 , 2024Carteret, North Carolina — June 30, 2024 — According to WITN, North Carolina Highway Patrol troopers were called to a car crash involving three cars on Highway 58 near Old Church Road.
Troopers say Steven Shelton, 48, was traveling north when he attempted to pass another vehicle and hit Dale Mangum, 64, of Angier, who was traveling south. The Highway Patrol says Mangum and the passenger in the car, 59-year-old Tammy Witham of New Bern, died at the scene from injuries brought on by the crash.
After hitting Mangum head-on, Shelton collided with a Subaru Outback traveling south.
Shelton was flown to ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville. The Subaru driver was not injured.
After consulting with the District Attorney’s Office, the Highway Patrol says charges will be forthcoming.
