Two Young Lives Lost in Rowan County Crash; Driver Faces Felony DWI Charges

January 19, 2026

Rowan County, North Carolina — January 18, 2026 — According to WCNC and state authorities, a late-night crash claimed the lives of two young adults and led to serious criminal charges against another driver.

The collision occurred on Amity Hill Road, near the boundary between Rowan and Iredell counties. North Carolina State Highway Patrol investigators report that a Chevrolet Silverado traveling along the roadway crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a Honda Accord head-on.

Driver Faces Felony DWI Charges

Both occupants of the Honda were pronounced dead at the scene. They have been identified as Fletcher Mark Daniel Harris and Skylar Provenza.

The driver of the Silverado, Juan Alvarado Aguilar, was taken into custody and charged with two counts of felony death by motor vehicle, along with driving while impaired. Authorities confirmed that he is currently being held at the Rowan County jail under a $250,000 secured bond.

Harris, from Catawba, North Carolina, was a student-athlete at Catawba College, where he played goalkeeper for the men’s soccer team. During the 2024 season, he appeared in three matches and was described by coaches and administrators as a valued member of the campus community.

Catawba College officials released statements expressing deep sorrow over the loss. Head men’s soccer coach Alex Morais said the program and broader community were devastated, emphasizing that Harris was deeply cared for and would be remembered with lasting affection. Athletic department leadership echoed those sentiments, highlighting Harris’s character both on and off the field and acknowledging the profound impact of his death on classmates, teammates, and friends.

Details regarding memorial services and funeral arrangements for Harris and Provenza have not yet been announced. College representatives indicated that information will be shared once plans are finalized.

The investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
