Breaking News: Speeding Driver Accused of DUI in Fatal Gastonia Crash That Killed 45-Year-Old Woman
June 20 , 2025Gastonia, North Carolina — June 18, 2025 — According to WSOC TV, a 21-year-old man is facing multiple felony charges after a high-speed crash that claimed the life of a 45-year-old woman.
The collision occurred near East Hudson Boulevard and Gaston Day School Road. Authorities say the impact was so severe that a seasoned traffic investigator with over a decade of experience described it as the most violent crash he has ever seen.
According to the Gastonia Police Department, Logan Taylor, 21, of Huntersville, was driving a Dodge Charger south on Armstrong Park Road. Police allege Taylor was speeding and had his headlights turned off at the time of the incident. Investigators say he failed to stop at a red light at the intersection with Hudson Boulevard and slammed into a Hyundai Elantra.
45-year-old Rashonda Greene of Gastonia was driving the Hyundai. Emergency responders pronounced her dead at the scene.
Taylor’s 18-year-old brother was riding in the Charger at the time of the crash. Both brothers were taken to a hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.
In a statement released Tuesday, Gastonia Police Chief Trent Conard emphasized the dangers of impaired driving: “Drinking and driving is not just illegal – it’s deadly. We urge everyone to think before they get behind the wheel impaired. One poor decision can destroy lives.”
Taylor has been charged with felony death by motor vehicle, driving under the influence, failing to obey a red traffic signal, and reckless driving. After being released from medical care, he was taken into custody and booked into jail with a bond set at $1 million.
