Authorities responded to a request for assistance at a residential area in the Hayes community, where investigators began examining the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting.

Officials later identified and arrested a suspect in connection with the incident. The charges and details of the investigation have not yet been fully released.
The case is being investigated jointly by the United States Postal Inspection Service, the Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office, and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.
