Breaking News: Sanitation Worker Fatally Struck on NC-27 in Lincoln County; Driver Faces Charges
April 30 , 2025Lincoln County, North Carolina — April 29, 2025 — According to WBTV and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. a sanitation worker lost his life Tuesday evening after being struck by a vehicle while performing roadway job duties.
Authorities identified the victim as 35-year-old Brandon Carpenter of Dallas, North Carolina. Carpenter was reportedly working behind a stopped garbage truck on North Carolina Highway 27, near the intersection with Highway 150, when the incident occurred around 7:40 p.m.
According to investigators, the Mack model garbage truck was legally stopped in the travel lane when a Toyota Camry traveling in the same direction failed to slow down in time. The car struck Carpenter near the rear of the truck.
The driver, identified as 35-year-old Danica Borders of Lincolnton, has been charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle and failure to reduce speed to avoid a collision. Troopers confirmed that no signs of impairment were present at the scene.
Emergency responders transported Carpenter to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries. No other individuals were injured in the crash.
The investigation remains ongoing as officials continue reviewing the circumstances surrounding the collision.
