Public Transit Bus Driver Killed in Three-Vehicle Collision in Albemarle
July 30, 2026Albemarle, North Carolina — July 29, 2026 — According to WCCB Charlotte, a Stanly County public transit bus driver lost her life following a three-vehicle crash on U.S. 52.
Officers responded to the collision near Salisbury Avenue, where investigators say the crash began after a southbound Jeep encountered an object in the roadway. Police believe the driver lost control of the SUV, causing it to cross the centerline into the northbound lanes.
The Jeep then collided head-on with a Stanly County Public Transportation bus traveling north. Moments later, a Ford pickup traveling behind the bus was unable to avoid the wreck and struck the rear of the transit vehicle.
The bus driver, identified as 60-year-old Stella Dase, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Jeep sustained serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Authorities reported no additional injuries resulting from the collision.
