Breaking News: One Dead, Multiple Injured After Vehicle Strikes Pulled-Over Cars on I-77 in Iredell County

June 3 , 2025

Troutman, North Carolina — June 2, 2025 — According to WBTV 3, a late-night crash on Interstate 77 in Iredell County claimed the life of a young passenger and sent several others to the hospital, according to state troopers.

The incident occurred near mile marker 43 in the Troutman area. Authorities say 22-year-old Emma Garwood of Taylorsville was driving northbound when her vehicle struck a Dodge that had pulled over on the side of the road. The impact pushed the Dodge into a Hyundai, which was also stopped nearby.

Tragically, 18-year-old Shane McCurdy of Kenly, who was a passenger in Garwood’s vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Garwood has been charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle and failure to reduce speed. She and the driver of the Hyundai were hospitalized with injuries that were not life-threatening, while the driver of the Dodge remains in critical condition.

According to reports, both the Dodge and the Hyundai were partially stopped in the left lane due to an earlier crash at the time of the incident. No further updates on the condition of the critically injured driver have been released.
