Lumberton Man Dies in Head-On Collision on Robeson County Road 

Robeson County, North Carolina — July 20, 2026 — According to ABC 15 News and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, a 30-year-old Lumberton resident was killed after his vehicle crossed the center line and collided with an oncoming pickup truck.

Troopers responded to the crash on Saddletree Road, where investigators determined a westbound 2019 Honda Civic traveled into the opposite lane and struck an eastbound 2020 Chevrolet pickup head-on.

Following the impact, both vehicles came to rest partially in the roadway. The Honda stopped facing northwest, while the pickup came to rest facing north.

Authorities identified the driver of the Honda as Everildo G. Zapete-Jimenez, 30, of Lumberton. He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators reported that excessive speed did not appear to contribute to the collision. However, impairment is suspected as a possible factor and remains part of the ongoing investigation.

The driver of the Chevrolet pickup sustained minor injuries and was transported by Robeson EMS to UNC Health Southeastern for treatment.
