Gastonia Man Faces Murder Charge After Fatal Crash Involving Cleveland County EMS Ambulance
July 7, 2026Kings Mountain, North Carolina — July 6, 2026 — According to Queen City News and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, a Gastonia man has been charged with second-degree murder following a crash that claimed the life of a Cleveland County paramedic and injured another EMS worker.
The collision occurred along the eastbound lanes of U.S. 74. Authorities say the crash involved a Cleveland County EMS ambulance and a Dodge Challenger, forcing the ambulance to overturn.
Investigators allege that the driver of the Challenger, identified as 35-year-old Jared O’Neil Logan, was speeding and under the influence of alcohol when the collision occurred.
Logan has been charged with:
- Second-degree murder.
- Driving while intoxicated.
- Reckless driving.
- Failure to wear a seat belt.
He is currently being held in the Gaston County Jail without bond.
According to investigators, paramedic Ashley Moore, 37, was providing medical care to a patient inside the ambulance at the time of the crash. The impact reportedly caused Moore to be ejected from the vehicle. She died as a result of her injuries.
Officials also confirmed that another EMS worker was injured in the collision. No additional information about that individual’s condition has been released.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
